The U.S. Mint has announced the release of the fifth and final coin in the First Amendment Platinum Proof Coin Series. This last coin, which represents the “Right to Petition,” will be available on February 20 at noon EST. Only 9,000 coins will be minted, and for the first 24 hours, each household can order up to three coins.
A Series Celebrating American Freedoms
The First Amendment Platinum Proof Coin Series started in 2021 and will end in 2025. It highlights the five freedoms protected by the First Amendment:
- Freedom of Religion (2021)
- Freedom of Speech (2022)
- Freedom of the Press (2023)
- Right to Assemble (2024)
- Right to Petition (2025 – Final Coin)
This collection uses the oak tree’s growth cycle as a symbol of the nation’s development. The idea is that freedom starts as a seed (our Bill of Rights) and grows into a strong, enduring tree (our democracy).
Design and Meaning of the Final Coin
The obverse (front) design, created by Donna Weaver, features a fully grown oak tree, symbolizing endurance and strength. The inscription reads:
“WITH THE RIGHT TO PETITION, LIBERTY ENDURES.”
Additional inscriptions include “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2025.”
The reverse (back) design, by Patricia Lucas-Morris, is used for all coins in this series. It features a majestic eagle carrying an olive branch, representing peace and unity. The inscriptions include:
“UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “$100,” “1 OZ.,” and “.9995 PLATINUM.”
Limited Edition and Pricing
Each coin comes in a premium presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. Since the coin contains precious metal, its price will follow the U.S. Mint’s pricing table for numismatic gold, platinum, and palladium products.
Conclusion
This coin marks the end of an incredible five-year journey celebrating the core freedoms that define America. The series not only honors the First Amendment but also reminds us that freedom is strong, like the mighty oak tree. Collectors and patriots alike will want to own this piece of history.
